April 2007
Well, Maple Sunday has come and passed. Sugaring was on the slow side this year, but most people were able to get their year’s supply of the best maple syrup you can find.
Two weeks ago, the rhubarb and tulips were coming up. But we’ve had some late winter (early spring, really) snow storms. 18” on April 4th and 9” on April 12th. Last night we got about a foot before it changed to rain with the big nor’easter that came in. And as I write this, it’s turned back to snow again! So the snowmobilers are still going strong, and the skiers at Saddleback and Sugarloaf are enjoying a few extra weekends they weren’t anticipating.
The wild turkeys in the area have been moving about. Several visit the ground beneath our bird feeders several times a day. Mostly Toms, but a few hens as well. And the moose are beginning to move around also. Tracks in the snow in the side yard last week proves they’re out there. Seeing more trotting down the road than in the woods!
We are really gaining on the B&B. Just waiting for the weather to turn so the siding and roof shingles can go on. The windows are here, so that’ll be next. The gas, water, electric, and plumbing are pretty much finished. A little more insulation and a whole lot of sheet rock and we’ll be good to go. Unfortunately it’s too dark in the building without the windows to take good photos of the progress, which explains why we haven’t updated the photo.
In the meantime, we’ve had some real nice folks enjoy their stay at Star Barn Guest House. Please read their comments by clicking on “Nice Comments from our Guests” on the Exciting Plans page of our site.
Hopefully the next newsletter will be more "Spring-like." Until then, take care.
